Meet The Lizards The Anime-Loving Tech Geek Steering Lizard Global’s Design Vision

From anime marathons to design sprints, Eric Coutet’s creative journey is anything but ordinary. As Lizard Global’s Product Design Director, he’s shaping the company’s design DNA — blending imagination, empathy, and tech to craft digital experiences that truly connect.

Eric Coutet – The Anime-Loving Tech Geek Steering Lizard Global’s Design Vision

Eric Meet The Lizards The Creative Minds Behind the Pixels

When it comes to shaping the look, feel, and experience of Lizard Global’s digital products, Eric Coutet is the driving force behind it all. As the Product Design Director, Eric has spent the last nine years transforming ideas into intuitive, human-centered designs that go far beyond aesthetics. They solve problems, spark innovation, and shape meaningful digital experiences.

With a sharp eye for strategy and a lifelong love for creativity and technology, Eric has grown alongside Lizard Global, playing a pivotal role in evolving the company’s design vision into what it is today: a globally recognized blend of functionality, artistry, and user empathy.

A Leader, A Creator, and A Lifelong Learner

If you had to describe Eric in five words, they’d be strategic, creative, analytical, driven, and thoughtful — but even those don’t quite capture his unique blend of design intellect and geeky charm.

Outside the office, Eric is a self-proclaimed anime and tech nerd.

He’s been an anime enthusiast for over 25 years, with a jaw-dropping 8TB collection of over 800 series stored on his personal server. “If played nonstop, it would take nearly 30 years to finish,” he laughs. The art, storytelling, and boundless imagination of anime inspire his creative process — reminding him that every design, just like every story, should surprise, connect, and evolve.

And then there’s the tech side — the gadgets, automation systems, and future-forward innovations that keep him on the cutting edge. Eric doesn’t just consume tech; he lives it. From smart home automation to staying up late watching WWDC or Google I/O, his curiosity fuels his understanding of how technology shapes user behavior — a crucial skill in design leadership.

“I love tinkering with technology. It’s not just about owning the latest device — it’s about understanding how it can make life better, smarter, or more enjoyable. That’s the mindset I bring into design every day.”

The Road to Lizard Global

Eric’s story with Lizard Global began long before the company became the international powerhouse it is today. After moving to Malaysia in 2013 from Australia, he worked in a tech company that developed smart devices for hotels and cruise ships.

While there, Eric’s curiosity for UI/UX design began to bloom. When the company’s front-end designer resigned, Eric seized the opportunity — redesigning interfaces, improving user flows, and directly pitching his ideas to the CEO and CTO. It was a bold move that changed the trajectory of his career.

When his efforts went unrewarded despite his growing contributions, Eric took a leap of faith — resigning without another job lined up, confident in his skills and vision. Fate stepped in soon after when a mutual connection introduced him to Guido, Lizard Global’s Co-Founder and CTO. The timing was perfect — Lizard Global (then Lizard Apps) needed a design expert, and Eric was ready to take on a bigger challenge.

“I joined Lizard Global not just to design, but to build something meaningful. I wanted to grow, lead, and shape how design could drive business value — not just make things look good.”

Life as Product Design Director

Ask Eric what sets Lizard Global apart, and you’ll get an answer layered with both heart and insight.

“It’s the people, the trust, the freedom,” he shares. “We work hard, but we’re never overworked. We collaborate, but we also challenge each other. It’s a culture where communication is open, growth is encouraged, and innovation is expected.”

As Product Design Director, Eric wears many hats — from hands-on designer to mentor, strategist, and collaborator. His day might begin with creative exploration, transition into leadership meetings, and end with brainstorming sessions with teams across Europe and Asia. Every day is different, but that’s what he thrives on.

“There’s no such thing as a typical day. That’s what I love about it. Design is alive — it’s unpredictable, and that’s where great ideas come from.”

Leading Collaboration Across Teams

Eric’s role extends beyond the design department — he’s the bridge connecting creativity with execution.

He works closely with Software Engineers to ensure technical feasibility, Product Owners to align user goals with business needs, Sales and Business Development to craft design-driven proposals, and HR to shape the next generation of design talent.

“Great design doesn’t live in a vacuum. It’s born from collaboration, from bringing different minds together toward one vision.”

His Design Philosophy

To Eric, good UI/UX design isn’t about color palettes or pixels — it’s about people.

“Good design solves real problems,” he says. “It’s built on understanding user behavior, testing assumptions, and listening — really listening — to what users need. Design isn’t about perfection; it’s about empathy and adaptability.”

That philosophy has guided countless Lizard Global projects, from large-scale enterprise platforms to consumer-facing apps, each built on user insight and human-centered thinking.

Memories That Stick

When asked about his favorite memory, Eric’s face lights up. He recalls the early days at the Bukit Damansara office — a sprawling bungalow that doubled as workspace, home, and playground.

“We worked hard and celebrated harder,” he laughs. “There was a pool, BBQs, Indonesian treats from Guido’s wife Sofia — it felt like a family. Those moments built the foundation of who we are as a company.”

And, of course, the 10-year anniversary trip to Bali — a milestone that reminded everyone how far they’ve come.

Looking Ahead

Eric’s vision for the next five years is as ambitious as it is inspiring.

He aims to evolve the Product Design department into a strategically vital, revenue-generating powerhouse — not just a support unit but a driver of business innovation.

“I want Lizard.Design to become a standalone brand — known for world-class design that shapes digital products and business growth.”

His dream is a department that’s not only creative but independent, scalable, and strategic, setting benchmarks for the future of digital product design.

Words for Future Lizards

Eric’s advice for aspiring designers and future Lizards is simple yet powerful:

“If you’re joining Lizard Global, you’re not just designing screens — you’re designing impact. You’ll be challenged, supported, and inspired every step of the way. We don’t expect perfection, we expect curiosity and growth. If you’re ready for that, you’ll thrive here.”

After nine years, it’s clear Eric isn’t just leading design — he’s building a culture where creativity and strategy work hand in hand, and where every project is a chance to create something meaningful.

UI/UX at the Heart of Every Project

Under Eric’s leadership, Lizard Global’s Product Design team has redefined what it means to merge creativity with purpose. From crafting intuitive apps to designing full-scale digital ecosystems, every project reflects the same philosophy — that good design starts with understanding people.
