  • Creativity thrives on curiosity — Fresh perspectives, whether from anime storytelling or global experiences, can inspire innovative approaches to design challenges.
  • Technology trends shape design expectations — Staying up-to-date with tech developments ensures designs remain relevant and forward-thinking.
  • Collaboration is key — Working closely with developers, product owners, and business teams ensures designs are feasible, strategic, and aligned with goals.

At Lizard Global, great design isn’t just about making things look beautiful — it’s about crafting experiences that connect, inspire, and solve real problems.

Our Product (UI/UX) Designers are at the heart of that mission, they’re more than just a group of people who make things look good — they’re the creative architects behind every intuitive click, smooth interaction, and eye-catching interface. Each designer brings their own unique story, skill set, and personality to the table, shaping products that don’t just function, but truly connect with users.

In this edition of Meet the Lizards, we’re pulling back the curtain to introduce you to the creative minds shaping the future of our digital experiences — from anime-loving tech geeks to culture-blending visionaries and multi-tasking design dynamos. Get ready to see how their journeys, passions, and day-to-day challenges fuel the designs you see (and use) every day.

Eric Coutet – The Anime-Loving Tech Geek Steering Lizard Global’s Design Vision

Nine years is a long time in the world of tech and design — and Eric Coutet has spent every one of them helping shape Lizard Global’s creative heartbeat. As Product Design Director, he’s not only built a department from the ground up but infused it with strategy, vision, and a healthy dash of geek culture.

From Anime Collections to Design Strategy

If you ask Eric to describe himself, you’ll quickly learn he’s more than just a design leader. He’s a strategic thinker, a creative problem-solver, an analytical mind — and yes, a massive anime geek.

How massive? Try 8TB of anime, over 800 series and 28,000 episodes — enough to watch non-stop for nearly 30 years. “I’ve been into anime for over 25 years, and I don’t see myself stopping,” Eric laughs. “It’s the creativity and escapism that keeps me hooked. Every year, there’s always one new concept that flips the industry on its head — I try to bring that same mindset to design.”

And it’s not just anime. Eric is also a tech and gadget enthusiast — the kind of person who follows global tech conferences in the early hours, automates his home to sci-fi levels, and has even queued overnight in multiple cities for Apple product launches. “The relationship between tech and UI design is obvious,” he says. “But staying ahead of tech trends also keeps me prepared for what users will expect next.”

The Road to Lizard Global

Eric’s Malaysian chapter began in 2013, when he moved from France in search of a job. With a background in advertising and graphic design, he landed a dual role as graphic designer and account manager at a tech company creating media streaming devices for hotels and cruise ships.

When the company’s UI designer left, Eric seized the opportunity. Skipping the chain of command, he pitched a bold redesign vision directly to the CEO and CTO — and was promptly moved to the tech department.

Three years in, after being denied a raise he knew he’d earned, Eric walked away without another job lined up. It was a bold move, but one that paid off quickly when a mutual connection introduced him to Guido, Lizard Global’s Co-Founder & CTO. “They wanted a proper designer. I wanted to grow, lead, and stay in tech. The stars were aligned — and I started a month later.”

Life as Product Design Director

Nine years on, Eric’s role is as dynamic as ever. He still designs, researches, and facilitates workshops, but also leads sales pitches, develops services, mentors his team, and shapes department strategy.

“There’s no typical day,” he admits. “You can plan, but something always shifts. That’s what keeps it interesting.” His work touches every corner of the company — from collaborating with developers to ensure technical feasibility, to working with sales on pitch decks, to helping HR hire and grow new design talent.

What sets Lizard Global apart from other places he’s worked? “The camaraderie, the trust, the culture. We tackle challenges openly, we respect work-life balance, and no project is boring. There’s structure, but also room to improvise.”

Memories That Stick

Eric’s favourite memories take him back to Lizard’s old Bukit Damansara “mansion office,” complete with a pool, Airbnb rooms, and weekly Indonesian treats cooked by Guido’s wife. “We had wild parties, BBQs, and real friendships that went beyond the office. That setting made it easy to bond.”

More recently, the company’s 10-year anniversary trip to Bali stands out as another unforgettable highlight — a celebration of how far the team has come.

Looking Five Years Ahead

Eric’s vision for the future is ambitious: transforming the Product Design department into a strategically vital, revenue-generating powerhouse with its own brand, Lizard.Design.

“I want us to be known for high-impact design services that stand on their own, not just as a support function. Design should be a driver of innovation, product success, and business growth.”

Advice for Future Lizards

“If you’re joining Lizard Global, especially in design, know this — we don’t just design screens. We design strategies, solve problems, and build products that matter. You’ll be challenged, supported, and encouraged to grow into the best version of yourself. It’s not about being perfect — it’s about being curious, committed, and open to learning.”

After nine years, it’s clear Eric isn’t just leading design — he’s building a culture where creativity and strategy work hand-in-hand, and where every project is a chance to create something meaningful.

Lien Jo-Ey – The Creative Multi-Tasker Crafting User-Friendly Experiences

When Lien Jo-Ey first stumbled across Lizard Global’s website, she wasn’t just browsing — she was on a mission. “I was searching for a software agency for my internship,” she recalls. “I found Lizard Global, and right away, I was impressed by the website — the way it moved, the interactions, the creativity. It made me want to learn more.”

That spark of curiosity led her to apply, join as an intern, and eventually secure a full-time role as a Junior Product (UI/UX) Designer.

One and a half years later, Jo-Ey has built an impressive track record, juggling multiple projects that challenge her design thinking and time management skills. “I’ve learned how to multitask effectively and manage my time so I can deliver quality work without burning out,” she says.

Among her many projects, one stands out: reliVet. “It’s special because it was my first website project after joining full-time. It’s a two-sided marketplace that connects veterinarians with flexible work opportunities and helps hospitals find the staff they need. I love that it solves a real problem for both sides.”

But her story at Lizard Global isn’t just about professional milestones — it’s also about culture. “My colleagues are amazing. The environment here is friendly, supportive, and there’s always something fun to join in on.”

Ask her for a favorite memory, and she doesn’t hesitate: “The company trip to Bali in 2022. We explored beautiful places, tried delicious local food, and just had fun together outside of work. It’s moments like that which make you feel connected to the team.”

Her advice for newcomers? “You will definitely grow here. Lizard Global gives you the space to explore, innovate, and be creative.”

Thisura Rasanjana – The Creative Problem-Solver with a Global Perspective

For Thisura Rasanjana, his journey to Lizard Global started with a leap — across the ocean. Originally from Sri Lanka, Thisura had over five years of experience as a UI/UX Engineer. He was settled in his career, but when his wife began her postgraduate studies in Malaysia, he relocated with her. It meant stepping away from his role and starting fresh.

“I began freelancing to sustain myself while actively searching for a full-time position here,” he explains. “When I discovered Lizard Global, I was drawn to its reputation, its innovative projects, and the nature of the role.”

Now a Product (UI/UX) Designer, Thisura has already embraced the team’s open, collaborative culture. “From day one, I felt welcomed. The people here are supportive, and the work-life balance is something I truly value — it’s not something you find everywhere.”

Even though he’s been with Lizard for about a year, he's learning the company’s unique approach to design and product development, as well as the industries they serve. “It’s exciting to see how strategy, creativity, and technology come together here,” he says.

When it comes to fun memories, Thisura is still in the collecting phase. “I haven’t had my stand-out moment yet,” he admits with a smile. “But with the culture here, I know it’s coming soon.”

And for anyone thinking of joining? “If you’re looking for a workplace that values both professional growth and personal well-being, this is the place for you. The culture, the people, the balance — it all comes together here.”
